Business credit card recommendations should be rooted in data, which is why we conducted the most in-depth business credit card comparison study online that we’re aware of.

We analyzed law firms, specifically the business checking account spend of those within the industry of legal services, to figure out which business credit cards offer the best rewards. This involved a total spend of around $1.06 million.

Then, we compared that to the category rewards of all the major branded business credit cards in the US.

Here are the best business credit cards for law firms based on those results.

Why Flat Rate Cards Beat Category-Spend Cards for Law Firm Business Owners

Within just a few months, the law firms in our dataset spent around $1.06 million.

What are they spending the most money on? Breaking down business checking account data into spend categories, law firms spend their money on:

  • Business Services: 40% of spend.
  • Professional Services: 20% of spend.
  • Government/Taxes: 9% of spend.
  • Dining: 8% of spend.
  • Advertising: 3% of spend.

Around 70% of spend is only going to 1x points on every card out there. Category-spend cards aren’t going to give you the cash back that you need to see rewards from your spending.

In fact, if we take a look at what law firms would actually get back on popular business credit cards based on these category spend levels, we’ll see that effective return rates look like this:

  • Amex Gold Card: Around 1.29% of spend in rewards.
  • U.S. Bank Triple Cash Card: Around 1.21% in cash back.
  • Chase Ink Cash: Around 1.15% in cash back.

None of these cards reach the unlimited 1.5% cash back cards, with 2% effective flat-rate cards offering the best returns for law firms. Put simply, a card with a flat-rate is going to be a better choice for most law firms than category-spend cards given where spending is going.

There are some exceptions to the rule. We’ll cover these as we explore the best business credit cards for law firms below.

Best Business Credit Cards for Law Firms

1. Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash: Best Rewards for Law Firms

Wells Fargo Signify Card

The Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash card is the top card to choose if you want the best rewards for your law firm.

Unlike many other cards, the Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash card offers a flat-rate of 2% and unlimited cash back. This means that there are no caps or limited rewards based on spending categories.

All of your spending is going to earn you cash back. For example, if your business is spending $10,000 a month on business expenses, you’re going to be earning $2,400 annually in cash back.

There are other benefits to the Wells Fargo Signify Business Cash Card too. These include:

  • A $500 cash rewards bonus when you spend at least $5,000 in the first three months of opening an account.
  • $0 annual fee.
  • 0% introductory APR for the first 12 months. Then, 16.99% to 24.99% variable APR after.
  • Employee cards at no additional cost.
  • Travel benefits, such as accident insurance and other forms of car rental coverage.

2. FairFigure Lift Card: Best for Bad Credit/Building Business Credit

FairFigure Lift Card

It can seem nearly impossible to get the funding you need if bad personal credit is getting in the way. Thankfully, there are solutions. The FairFigure Lift Card is best for law firm business owners who have a low personal credit score.

The FairFigure Lift Card is an EIN only business credit card alternative. It’s perfect if you’re looking for business credit cards with no personal credit check or startup business credit cards with no credit EIN only.

That means no personal credit check and no personal guarantee. No paperwork and no security deposit are required to get started with this business card. It’s perfect for any new small business.

The FairFigure Lift card is focused on two things: revenue and time in business. If you generate $2,500 a month and have three months in business, you qualify. As you scale your small business, you’ll boost your cash flow.

If you decide to apply, you will receive:

  • Flexible Payment Terms: Choose between four-week and eight-week payback terms.
  • Credit-Building Support: Don’t just get funding now. Work toward better funding opportunities by building business credit. Your Lift Card payments are reported to Dun and Bradstreet, SBFE, Equifax, Experian, and Creditsafe. Because this card doesn't check your personal credit, applying for it won't trigger a hard inquiry on your personal credit reports.
  • Additional Business Tools: With your business card and subscription, you get access to all FairFigure tools: Unify, Guard, Pulse, and Signal.
  • Grow Your Business Credit and Secure Funding — Simultaneously.

Better yet, there are no credit card fees, and the subscription is not required to qualify for the Lift Card.

3. American Express Blue Business Cash: Best Amex for Cash Rewards

American Express Blue Business Cash

Staying within certain ecosystems makes sense for some businesses. Opening up cards everywhere might not be ideal for your finances. If you’re looking to stick with American Express payment options, consider the Amex Blue Business Cash card.

This business credit card offers 2% cash back on everyday purchases. However, there is a limit. You only get 2% on eligible purchases up to $50,000 per calendar year. Then, you get 1% cash back on purchases thereafter.

With that restriction in mind, this is the best Amex for cash rewards for law firms. It also comes with:

  • No annual fee.
  • $250 statement credit after you spend $3,000 on your card within the first three months.
  • 0% introductory APR for the first 12 months. Then, 16.99% to 28.74% variable APR.

You also get access to features like Expanded Buying Power to go past your credit limit, and Amex’s Apply With Confidence to pre-qualify without impacting your personal credit score.

4. Bank of America Customized Cash: Best Category Card for High Business Services Spend

Bank of America Customized Cash

The Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card is a bit of an outlier on this list.

This is a category-spend card that might be a useful addition to your law firm. Why? They offer 3% cash back on select categories, which also include business consulting services.

Since law firms spend around 40% of their overall spend on business consulting, this might be a good option.

More than that, with Preferred Rewards banking, you could lift your overall rewards to 5.25%. Plus, they offer an additional 3% cash back on your choice of category for the first year of card membership.

If you can maximize your rewards strategically, you might see some great cash back rewards from this card. Here’s an overview of how it works.

  • With the BoA Customized Cash card, you get 3% cash back as well as an additional 3% first-year cash back bonus in the category of your choice.
  • You get 2% cash back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs.
  • Unlimited 1% cash back on all other business expenses.

Regarding the first promotion, there are limitations. As Bank of America states, you can earn 6% cash back and 2% cash back on the first $2,500 in combined purchases each quarter, then unlimited 1% thereafter.

After the 6% promotion ends, you can earn 3% and 2% cash back on combined purchases up to $2,500, then 1% afterward.

Some other features of this business credit card include:

  • No annual fee.
  • 0% introductory APR for 15 billing cycles. Then, 17.49% to 27.49% variable APR.
  • $200 cash rewards if you make at least $1,000 in eligible purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.
  • The ability to see if you pre-qualify so as not to impact your personal credit score. There’s only a hard credit check when you send over an application.

5. Chase Ink Unlimited: Strong Cash Back Option

Chase Ink Unlimited

The Chase Ink Unlimited business credit card is typically a strong contender for most industries because of its consistent rewards. This makes it a strong cash back option for your law office.

With the Chase Ink Unlimited card, you earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on all business purchases.

If you’re a Lyft customer, you can get 5% cash back on Lyft rides through September 30, 2027. They also offer a complimentary three-month Instacart+ membership through December 31, 2027.

Spending at least $6,000 within the first three months after account opening will earn you $750 cash back.

Unlike other cards, you’re not as limited in how you receive your rewards. You can get cash, gift cards, travel perks, and more.

The Chase Ink Unlimited business credit card comes with no annual fee and 0% introductory APR for 12 months. Then, 16.74% to 24.74% variable APR after that.

If you’re proactive about maximizing your points, you can get 40,000 membership points for each successful business card referral (up to 200,000 per year).

6. Bank of America Unlimited Cash: Strong Cash Back Option

Bank of America Unlimited Cash

A strong contender to the Chase Ink Unlimited Card is the Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards Credit Card.

As with the Ink Unlimited, this BoA business credit card offers unlimited 1.5% cash back. You’re able to generate rewards and tap into them so long as your account remains open.

This card actually has many of the same features as our first Bank of America business credit card recommendation. This includes:

  • 0% introductory APR for the first 15 billing cycles. Then, 17.49% to 27.49% variable APR thereafter.
  • $0 annual fee.
  • $250 cash rewards bonus if you spend at least $1,000 within 90 days of account opening.
  • The ability to max your rewards by signing up for BofA Rewards. Cash flow and credit limit matter, but so do savings on business expenses!

It’s not the most exciting card on this list, but it provides you with consistent cash back on all of your spending, which is what many law firm owners are looking for.

7. Capital One Spark Cash Select: Strong Cash Back Option for Fair Credit

Capital One Spark Cash Select

Capital One generally lists all business credit cards as requiring excellent credit. However, the Capital One Spark Cash Select is just above their Spark 1%, so you may be able to squeeze by with okay credit rather than exceptional credit.

The Capital One Spark Cash Select Card offers unlimited 1.5% cash back on all business purchases. Plus, they offer 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Business Travel.

If you spend at least $6,000 in purchases within the first three months after account opening, you can get an extra $750 cash bonus.

This card also comes with:

  • No annual fee.
  • 0% introductory APR for the first 9 months after account opening. Then, 16.74% to 26.74% variable APR thereafter.
  • Free employee cards for your law firm. Plus, customized spending limits and real-time expense tracking with employee cards.
  • Travel benefits.

If you know that you won’t qualify for their 2% cash back card because of your poor credit history, this is the card to go with. You might also get a better credit limit with this card than their base card.
